“What can I help with?” explores the inner workings of artificial intelligence through an immersive installation that calls attention to the ways AI both technologically and culturally remixes, distorts, and generates digital content. Curated human and AI made media is projected through a series of physical obstacles that distort, filter, refract, and diffuse light. In doing so, “What can I help with?” offers a tangible metaphor for the network’s layers of data processing, all while reflecting on the design decisions made by its large corporate makers.
In the racing adoption of AI across industries, ranging from education to corporate, alongside private/personal use cases, AI technologies have become more accessible than ever to the general public. Individual users are capable of creating customized content almost instantaneously raising questions about its environmental, social, and political impact of this technology. By remixing AI-generated content, this installation invites viewers to consider AI’s role in fabricating and altering reality. Gazing into the chaotic present-day AI landscape, we ask viewers to consider: What do we actually want to use this technology for?
